The first account of MacDonald’s utterance was published in 1840 in Norton’s Memoirs pp. 171–176, and the second account in 1861 in The Restoration of Apostles and Prophets pp. 15–18. The two accounts were conflated by MacPherson in his book The Incredible Cover-up pp. 151–154.
